BEND-GARD™ brand couplers and reinforcers are made from heavy gauge steel and they are plated for corrosion protection. They are 6 to 10” long and about 2” in diameter. The purpose is to couple and/or reinforce 1 1/2” EMT (electrical metal tubing) pieces being used for antenna mast systems. Remember: 1 ½” EMT has an outside diameter of about 1 3/4”.
The BEND-GARD™ couplers, about 10″ long, have two holes, one at each end, drilled and tapped through one wall. The coupler joins any two 1-1/2″ EMT pieces together with 5/16-18 x 1″ stainless pan head screws (bolts) to hold them in place.
The BEND-GARD™ reinforcer has one hole in the middle drilled through one wall and then tapped. A reinforcer is used on a 10′ length of EMT at the halfway point and provides extra support. It is secured with a 5/16-18 x 1” stainless pan head bolt. If desired, more than one reinforcer may be used on either 5 or 10 footers.
The guy ring retainer (STOP) compliments the BEND-GARD™ products. It acts as the stop for the mast’s top guy ring and possibly lower guy levels. It’s about one inch wide and has a hole drilled and tapped through one wall and is secured with a 5/16-18 x 1” pan head bolt.
Note: Some couplers, reinforcers and guy ring retainers (STOPS) are drilled through both walls for more universal usage, but are only threaded through one wall. A 5/16-18 x 1” stainless steel pan head screw (bolt) is provided for each tapped hole.
All BEND-GARD™ brand coupler and reinforcer products are ‘MADE IN USA’. Hardware is stainless steel. Origin may vary.
Note: the plating will discolor after a time, so you might want to spray them with hammered silver spray paint. I used RUST-OLEUM, 7213. It’s a very good match to the EMT.
